What we are going through currently is quite uncertain and will definitely distract our vision and dreams. This week, I decided to look more into the issue of vision and there was no other better way than to read; “Vivid Vision” by Cameron Herold.
Cameron articulates how we can use our vision and mission to inspire others, especially at the workplace. Unfortunately, many of us and our companies have slick, flashy mission statements that ultimately do little to motivate employees and less to impress customers, investors, and partners.
What you need to do is to ask five of your employees what the mission and vision of your company is… If less than 5 out of 5 answers are negative, truly you will be within the above class of companies and urgently need to read this book.
Cameron who is an entrepreneur takes us through how we can use the mission and vision statements of our companies to drive excitement in our organizations. Once this is achieved, our organization will achieve extraordinary levels of performance as a result of emergence; which is known as the high-performance teams within the organization.
This book goes ahead to help us develop a three-year vision and a mission statement that is more actionable and that will inspire our people to deliver more and eventually help in the achievement of the vision and the mission. Cameron provides us with tools for brainstorming, brainstorming is a key activity in this process of rediscovering our vision and will need the involvement of the internal stakeholders in our organizations.
We are encouraged to also look at the bigger picture and not to be bogged down by the details including data and numbers. As a result, we will be able to come up with a holistic road map to success that will get all our teammates to be passionate about the vision and mission we have created.
I will definitely recommend this book for both personal and business applications. The approach presented takes goals setting beyond a grand to-do list of our lives and turns it into a time-boxed vision that helps us clarify, engage with others, and align over time. The process is incremental making it easy for us in the beginning; it helps us build our vision and mission from scratch and is an iterative process that allows refinement over time.
