The Founder of Inspire Leadership & focuses on unlocking people’s potential by providing them with programs; mentorship and coaching into high performance
This week, I will be graduating with a doctorate in Business Management from Strathmore University Business School. As you can guess, my main study area was strategy and strategies relating to corporate sustainability in business. It is therefore only natural that this week I chose to read a book related to the above subject.
I opted for Climate: A New Story by Charles Eisenstein. This book is visionary and very different. It also provides a different perspective on the issues of climate change and sustainability.
In this book, Charles is not trying to adjust to any mainstream view on how to deal with the incredibly complex issues we have created as a society. Instead, he is inviting us to change the questions that we have been asking ourselves to get to the root cause of the problem.
While walking through the different views and nuances around our current state of sustainability, he is inviting us to get involved in a courageous journey of letting go of the temptation to find the right side to be on the war that has been framed for us on climate change.
This book helps us restore the trust that we can create a more beautiful time at the same time does not give any easy answers or false hopes towards this goal.
Charles has plenty of good examples on interbeing, a recognition of to live within, love the natural world and how to act on that. He points out the many ways in which the planet is suffering that has nothing to do with the climate crisis.
Our overuse and misuse of plastics is an example and another being our agricultural methods which involve deforestation, mono-cropping, use of pesticides and a resulting insect holocaust. He goes ahead and provides us with solutions out of this human-caused disaster through regenerative agriculture methods.
“Human well-being and planetary health are inextricably connected.” That is why we have to stop thinking of ourselves as separate from nature. “The world is a living being,” and we are a part of that living being. “The earth is still alive,” he tells us. “Now is the time to choose life. It is not too late.
The book is extremely thought-provoking, which will radically challenge the mainstream environmental narratives without dismissing the seriousness of the current ecological crisis. If you care about future generations, I highly recommend the book!

"I had the absolute pleasure of recommending and contracting Edward to present to our congregation. Edward was punctual, easy to communicate with and his amazing energy resulted in the following responses from the congregation: Over 90% rated Edward and his presentation as 'Absolutely Fantastic', with the remaining rating him as 'Great'. When asked about what key learnings the congregation had taken from the conference, the following referred to Edward: • How important a positive attitude to life is important & not to let other people's negativity impact on you • Ignoring the naysayers • The need for work, life balance • Be thankful for your health and look after yourself • Surround yourself with people that make you happy and positive • Spirituality is key to success and how to relate with your networks • The importance of making a real difference in our life I would have no hesitation in recommending or contracting Edward for future events and I can't wait to work with him again. "
