How You Can Activate Your Self-Drive

Aug 25, 2020

Many people today are not where they are supposed to be in life because they lack self- drive. Self-driven people are motivated to do or achieve something because of one's passion and interest. However, most of us think that the world revolves around and us and in exchange, we become comfortable with our current situations.

You stop being creative, you are not nice to people because you think that they need you more than you need them. In the process, you become disconnected from everyone and also from your work. Your daily behavior reflects your deepest beliefs. What does this mean? This means that how you decide to behave will after a while define your character and it will be so had for you to detach from it.

I listened to a podcast that described this behavior as a WRAM syndrome (World Revolves Around Me) when you have WRAM syndrome your perception is that you do not need anyone in your life. You should not let this syndrome come near your tight bubble of focus, because it affects your creativity, your relationships both at home and even at work. You will feel like people are entitled to you and in the process, you forget to appreciate the small good things in your life, your friends, and your family.

To avoid this syndrome, I have come with three ways to tackle and help you retain your personality. The first step is to be humble. No matter how accomplished you are, remain humble, do not fall in love with yourself, keep it real with yourself so that you do not lose yourself in the process.

Always know that real joy comes from serving other people and that is what leadership is all about. The second step is to always be present. Your presence is very important, when you are working; when you are relating with your clients; when you are talking to your spouses and children. Let your presence be felt, take every opportunity for people to feel your support.

This way, people relate with you better and your relationships at home, with friends, and at work will improve. Know that your mindset will be positive and your creativity will easily flow. Be keen at every single detail of what you are doing whether big or small, this matters a lot. For example, remembering someone’s birthday, buying them a gift brightens them and you can feel it just by looking at them.

Being present makes you learn how to handle each situation differently because you are familiar with each of the detail. Always remember that someone is always watching every move that you make. This should give you the drive you need to motivate someone. Just know that no matter where you are in life, there is someone always being inspired by what you are doing.

How you talk to people, how you react when angry or happy plays a very big role to people who are watching from afar. Always remember that someone is always watching, be it your children, workmates or friends. Be selfless, be humble, and let your presence be felt no matter the situation.
